Plan for tight spots rather than forcing furniture through them.

Make a break-even worksheet: compare total rent for staying versus moving over the same lease period, subtracting the concession from the new lease total. Subtract moving expenses and overlapping rent from any savings to see whether moving comes out ahead. Separately, list upfront cash needs, including deposits, and mark refundable amounts so they aren’t counted as permanent costs. Check the concession’s repayment conditions and calculate how paying it back would change the comparison before committing.

Verify applicable federal registration and operating authority for interstate carriers, or check state requirements for local movers. Get the service scope and payment terms in writing, including what is provided and when payment is due.

Leave off anything that will not fit, cannot stay, or is already covered. Share campus unloading rules and your reserved arrival slot with any movers you book.
